Freyr is also partnering with 24M, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology spin-out that develops its own proprietary battery cell manufacturing technology. The company is paying 24M $20 million to secure the right to produce battery cells using its technology. The deal is designed to give Freyr the ability to produce more batteries based on this technology than it can with conventional production methods. However, 24M has the right to walk away from the deal if it doesn’t meet certain production goals and financial obligations.
